A long time ago, car used only one ignition coil to supply electrical toward each cylinder. Therefore, the coil does not become one with the spark plug head. Coil first enters to distributor’s place and then spread to each cylinder. So, why the present car not adopted this method again? But used multi ignition coil system?

The reason is simple, In case one of the coils had a trouble the car can still run even if it's limping and not optimal. While, when use one coil with distributor, if ignition coil has an issue, car totally didn’t run or breaking down. Moreover, coil with distribution system not working maximum, cause electrical flow become longer and a lot of energy wasted.

Meanwhile, when apply coil distributor less system or one cylinder used one coil. Spark Firework without distributor much stronger and durable. While the ignition coil with the distributor vice versa. That the reasons, Why contemporary car adopted multi ignition coil system.
